3 from a distance...And an awesome special spot

Well finally, we saw 3 Molas, but alas from a distance and they were at about 45-50 metres! We took the boat early to Crystal bay to avoid the masses. And we literally only just missed them. As we wer ascending from 30 metres, there were literally about 5 groups ...

A special "goodnight"

Three of us jumped into the cold silty water at Ammo Jetty last night to see what critters would show their faces.

Surprisingly, there were no fisherman on the jetty, quite an unusual sight for a wind-free evening.  It made our dive easier, not having to worry about getting hooked ...

No big stuff but an exhilirating drift dive!

Well today was not a day for photos. We did 3 dives, the first 2 hunting for big stuff but to no avail. I didnt realise how cold the water temp actually gets here...a very brisk 17 degrees. Lucky for the extra 3mm wetsuit and gloves.

The first 2 ...

Underwater Festival Road Trip Day 7

A slight change of plans

We had hoped to do a shore dive in Bundaberg today but after arriving at the dive shop to find the visibility was only one metre, we decided to get our day of driving done and go all the way to Ayr.

For the past ...

Seahorses in the snow

I joined the Perth Scuba night dive last night at the Rockingham wreck trail in the hope of getting some decent pics.  Conditions here have been less than ideal and whilst the swell has been dropping, it was still cold and windy.  I had no buddy so was very grateful ...

Mola Mola..WTfstop?

Lembongan Island. Amazing. Blue Corner Dive Resort has only been opened since July but what a place! First dive today was Mola Mola. I was in awe, in shock, mesmerized by this massive, gentle, graceful and weird looking creature. I slowly descended beneath him (33 metres and about 21 degrees ...

Underwater Festival Road Trip Day 6

The Big Bad Wolf

Today was one of the most highly anticipated days of the trip. None of us had ever dived Wolf Rock before, but we'd all heard good things.

The protected site is a year-round home to grey nurse sharks, where mating and gestation can be witnessed ...

The swell is dropping....

...a little.

It's still hovering around the 2 metre mark but if we don't get in the water and shoot, we'll have nothing to enter into the UF11 competition.

Tonight it's a night dive with Perth Scuba at the Rockingham Wreck Trail.  It's an easy ...

Wonderful Whale Island (VIETNAM)

What good luck... the underwater festival this year fell during a long weekend in Vietnam!

Not much diving in Saigon... where to go? Nha Trang has some options - better still, Whale Island a little further north.

How to get there? Left it too late to book a flight or train ...

Underwater Festival Road Trip Day 5

Hello Queensland!

Today was our first day of diving in the Sunshine State on the HMAS Brisbane with Scuba World out of beautiful Mooloolaba.

Mooloolaba beach

The day started with another disaster - Kieren dropping and cracking his iPhone screen while loading up the Jucy van.

poor Kieren

But luckily that was the only hiccup ...
